Caroline Brady your Local Candidate
Caroline Brady selected to run for Fine Gael in the Local Elections
Lucan House – “… we must do everything to ensure that this desirable heritage house and grounds in the heart of the Liffey Valley is acquired by SDCC for the community. It’s transformative for Lucan.”
I’d like to thank my proposers Sanjeeb Barik and Sen Baby and the Lucan Branch for having confidence in me and selecting me at Convention this evening to run as a candidate in the Local Elections in June 2024. It’s a privilege and an honour to have an opportunity to run for election and to put myself forward to serve the people of Lucan.
Since I came home from Oxford, I’ve been very happy to get as involved in the Lucan community as my late Dad, Peter Brady. From a very young age I was at his side as he fundraised to build the church and schools at Esker, I helped out at the local bingo, and helped run the no-name club for young people. I’m pleased that I am now able to continue his legacy and serve the community.
I am a fifth generation Lucanian on my Mother’s side (the Dobbs family). I remember Mam telling me stories of the Trams running to Lucan in the 40’s and 50’s and how easy it was to get in and out of town. Since Bus Connects we lost the 25 Dodsboro bus. Dad and Mam fought for that service during the 60’s and it’s a real loss to the community in Dodsboro, Airlie, Woodview, and Hillcrest. The local routes simply do not serve the community. Unfortunately, we are also isolated from essential services for example it’s quite difficult to get from Lucan to Blanchardstown Hospital, or from Lucan to Intreo in Clondalkin on public transport. There is opportunity to invest in transport in Lucan, for example restore the 25, provide a Luas stop, get us to Blanchardstown Hospital and Clondalkin, that would be an excellent start.
It’s been really positive that SDCC are in negotiations with the Italian Embassy about the future of Lucan House, Emer Higgins T.D. gave us an update recently ex. the Lucan Newsletter “following several queries on the future of Lucan House, I sought clarification from the Acting Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council. He confirmed that subject to a successful purchase agreement, it is intended to develop the house and the grounds into a public amenity. This is fantastic news for Lucan.” This is indeed fantastic news for Lucan, and we must do everything to ensure that this desirable heritage house and grounds in the heart of the Liffey Valley is acquired by SDCC for the community. It’s transformative for Lucan.
I’m looking forward to getting out and meeting you in the community, listening to the issues that you care about, continuing to work in the community on your behalf, and to advocate on local issues that affect Lucan.
