I was selected by Fine Gael as a candidate for the Local Elections to South Dublin County Council for the Local Electoral Area (LEA) of Lucan. The Local Election will be held in May / June 2024.

I’m from Dodsboro, and you may know me and my family who are well known Lucan families: my Mam, Patty Dobbs, and my late Dad, Peter Brady.

Politics and serving the community are in my genes, influenced by my late father, Peter Brady, a former elected member for Dublin and South Dublin County Council. Dad passed on a commitment to Lucan where he successfully served his community for over 60 years. Many people will also remember Dad from the Cinema in Lucan and his fundraising Sunday roast raffles in Bob Carrols and the Monday bingo in Esker. Like my late Dad, I’m very involved in the local Lucan community where I organise the successful St. Patrick’s Day parade, serve the community as a Peace Commissioner, and fundraise regularly for good causes. I know how to deliver, whether it’s for a business or the community. I drive and achieve results through commitment to focus, planning, governance and always through communication.

I built strong business and leadership skills in technology and business transformation in the construction industry where I worked both at home and abroad for MFP (Marley) & CPI. Since I returned home to Dublin, I’ve diversified successfully putting my business skills to use serving my community, where I run a local charity. I also have experience in the Entertainment Industry, managing talent, and during Covid I successfully completed studying Law at the Kings Inns.

I have a passion and determination to see things through and get things done. I’m committed to serving the community in Lucan, fuelled by a passion for the empowerment of local communities. My priority is community advancement and a more engaged, secure, and prosperous Lucan through a focus on increased public participation in decision-making and infrastructure planning; and reduced crime and increased safety through investment in community policing. My leadership style is listening and advocating, enabling everyone to have a voice and be heard.

Appointments

I am a Peace Commissioner (P.C. or Feadhmannaigh Shiochana). I was appointed a Peace Commissioner, in the County of Dublin and within the counties immediately adjoining that county, on the 20th June 1997 by the Minister for Justice. The duties and powers of a Peace Commissioner (P.C.) are set out in the Courts of Justice Act 1924.

I served as a Director on the Board of Temple Bar Properties.

I served as a member of the Loughan House Prison visiting committee

I live and work in Oxford, United Kingdom. I am from Co. Dublin Ireland, where my Mother’s family have lived for 3 generations. I am the eldest of 5 children. My background is IT in the private sector. I love the Internet (sad person that I am) and my corner in Cyberspace is on the net since 1994.

For as long as I can remember I have an interest in Archaeology, especially Egyptology. I am also interested in Mythology, Politics, Music, Theatre, Cinema, Photography, Pubs, Clubs etc. etc. and in the event of any free time….there’s always my guitars and when I’m not at a Don Baker concert or other gig, my favourite activity is going to the movies. If I have to stay at home I rarely watch TV I’m more likely hiding out in my office at home surfing the net and messing with applications.

As you can see I have a wide range of interests and I also like to get “my hands dirty” by being actively involved with the groups and organisations in my community that share my interests.

I don’t really consider that I’m involved in lots of things but I’m always asked “how do you find the time”…….I guess I just like living.

The Brady Family Name

The name Brady in Ireland is derived from the native Gaelic Mac Bradaigh Sept, which is taken from an Irish word meaning ‘spirited’. This Sept was based in County Cavan. The motto which usually accompanies the Coat of Arms reads “claritate dextra” (the right hand is clear). I’m far from perfect, but try my best to behave in an honourable fashion. In particular I aspire to this rule from the 10 Rules of Chivalry as listed by Leon Gautier in Chivalry ISBN 1 851702687: “Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and Good and the foe of Injustice and Evil”. I’ve taken this as my own personal motto.

Cearúilín Ni Bhrádaigh is anim dom as gaeilge (Cearúilín Ni Bhrádaigh is my name in the Irish Language).

My Favourite Stuff

My favourite people change day to day depending on my humour, but there are some constants for example Liam Neeson is a fabulous actor and he hasn’t lost that irresistible Irish brogue. I saw him perform at the Abbey Theatre years ago and he was stunning, still one of my favourite theatre experiences. He will always be top of my list. James Nesbitt comes next, not surprisingly the link between Liam & James is the Northern Irish accent. Well, it is lovely. I notice voices, so I think that is what all the favourites on my list share, fabulous voices.

Musicians, well I tend to favour Indie, Blues & Jazz, so no surprises to see David Byrne ex The Talking Heads and Tom Waits at the top of the list. The Heads were the original Indie Band and David Byrne is an incredible entertainer. Tom Waits, no need to say anything there, Tom is universally acknowledged as one of the best musicians on the planet. Then Nick Cave, who blew me away years ago when I saw him live in London with The Birthday Party. He is still one of the best live performers I’ve ever seen. David Bowie, I prefer when he is being obscure as opposed to being the people’s favourite (but then we all have to pay our way). I’m glad to say, since Tin Machine, he remains a favourite. My favourite Irish musicians are Don Baker, legendary blues harp maestro and ultra cool musician, and John Spillane, his songs are gems and his performances astounding.

My favourite David Byrne, Tom Waits, Nick Cave and David Bowie albums? I have all their albums, my favourite one is whatever I happen to be playing at any given time and that depends on my mood.
