Finnstown Country House Hotel, built in the 18th Century, is one of the finest Country Houses in Ireland. The Hotel still retains that old world relaxed atmosphere while providing all the modern luxuries we've come to expect from a first class hotel. Set in 45 acres of mature grounds the Hotel is situated on the Newcastle Road just off the N4 (National Primary Route road and gateway to the West of Ireland) and convenient to the M50 for the Airport, the N7 (Cork & Limerick) and Dublin City Centre.
There is lots to do at the Hotel, sit and relax in front of a roaring fire, watch the Peacocks wander about in the grounds, try out the Turkish Baths and swimming Pool in the Fitness centre, or stroll around the extensive grounds. It's the ultimate away from it all location with the added avantage of being close to the city if needs must.
The dinning room at Finnstown is a fabulous, georgian style room overlooking the grounds of the Hotel. The minute you step into the room you know from the welcome and decor that they pay attention to detail and all this follows through to the food which is delicious. It's a rare treat and an excellent venue for a special evening entertaining visitors and friends, or lets face it treating yourself (you're worth it).
Finnstown House always reminds me of Christmas because my first memory of the hotel is as a teenager attending a Christmas function. I can still remember the magical feeling walking through the door decorated with holly and seeing the roaring fire, the beautiful traditionally decorated Christmas Tree, the smell of cinnamon, mulled wine, roasting chestnuts and the sense of timelessness. We enjoyed a sumptous traditional Christmas Dinner in the dinning room. After dinner the Seanchaí, Ireland's greatest story teller, Eamonn Kelly materialised seated beside the fire telling his wonderful stories. He mesmerised everyone and you could hear a pin drop in the room. That image is stamped on my memory. We could easily have been socialising in a bygone era. Lovely. The place is still the same. Enjoy.
